I went ahead and uploaded 5 music files for the neighborhoods in Atlas Park. I modified its page to show the links, as shown in the Neighborhoods section. I'd like some feedback.
What I've done was take the name of the zone, then the name of the neighborhood, removed all spaces and punctuation from both, then spliced them with an underscore. For example: AtlasPark_PrometheusPark.ogg
I stuck a "(Music)" link after every one of the Neighborhood names. It's out of the way, but you can still get the info needed.
__________
The main problem I see is that the files can be upward of 1MB each, so they could take up a lot of space on the server. TonyV, what do you say should be done? Just scrap the music idea, or upload oodles of Vorbis data? |

I think this is a great idea, though I can understand if storage space will be a concern if you plan to put all neighborhood music tracks on the site. After downloading the .ogg codecs for Windows Media Player, I can get my City of atmosphere fix anytime I want. |

| I've done the same thing for St. Martial's neighborhoods. I won't be posting any more until I have TonyV's approval, but there's some Villain music there as well. |

Well, I'm not so much concerned about storage, but I don't necessarily want to post all the music.
For one thing, it's easily available via That Which Must Not Be Mentioned™. For another, it's actually available for download from the official site. And last, but not least, there might be copyright implications if we basically host such a large subset of the IP here.
I like the idea of having some sound as part of the wiki if it adds significantly to the article (point in fact, the article on Glowie). But I don't think that we should host the music files.
(Though I have to admit, I have them on my own computer and sometimes listen to them out-of-game. I don't have the in-game music on, as I usually am listening to The Beatles, Billy Joel, Weird Al, or some other selection from my fine catalog. )
I think the best idea is to have an external link to the music file on the official site instead of hosting them all here. |

I took a quick look through the FTP listing, and I see that it has many of the musics--and many musics not in the PIGGs--but does not have all of the neighborhood musics. For example, J12, which is used for New Overbrook, is not present. In fact, most of the musics are the looped versions, none of which are used for neighborhood musics.
I'll see what kind of permission I can scrounge up in regards to using musics. |

Were you able to find anything out about this? I wonder how much difference there'd be to free-use of the music versus all the power icons, badges, and screen shots that are already loaded into the Wiki. |

o,o its the stepontoes while polishing shoes ratio, the higher the first goes vs the lower amount of the second shows the likely hood of getting through grey and fuzzy areas.

I was thinking of just that while I was cruising around the slopes a couple of weeks ago. _________________ @B Samson

| Anything in the client is technically available for free to the public, so the sound files can be uploaded free of any legal action. |

In general that's not true, but in this case, I do believe you're right in that the EULA grants the right to publish game content, which would presumably include sounds, on non-commercial sites such as ours. I think we would be in the clear.
Question still is, do we want to?
I'd like to play around with, at some point, some means of streaming sound and/or video in articles, but I've got about three things lined up I want to tackle first. |
